Thankful for Learning, Trails, & Music Creating Depth

Day 4,029

Growth:

Very relevant today for several reasons.

We go to school not to prove what we know, we go to learn.

Life is to be lived the right way. Always learning, always growing. Learning from failures, learning from successes.

Never allowing fear of failure to get the better of us.

Pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and grow from the experience.

Appreciation:

There is a clarity that seems to come with experience. Certain choices and actions become so much easier to see. The roads well worn with travel through the years start to show divergent game trails, the experiences we lead us to quicker paths to better waypoints. It almost seems as if we have to really wear down the trail in order to see the side trails that have always existed but were never seen.

Today I am both grateful for the trails well worn as they help us find our way as well as the side trails which slowly lead us to better destinations.

Presence:

The lyrics of Ends of the Earth by Lord Huron really got my mind rolling this morning! One line particular got stuck in brain and kept rolling through my thoughts:

“What good is living a life you’ve been given, if all you do is stand in one place?”

Lord Huron, Ends of the Earth

Initially my mind went to hiking, to traveling, to exploring. Then it drifted into the philosophical – don’t stand still in who you are, challenge assumptions, get uncomfortable, learn and grow.

Somehow it kept twisting and I could see the picture in my mind:

A quietly shifting stream slowly shifts across the plains, a steadily flowing river carved rock into canyons.

Mike Kreiling

My mind saw the vision of continuing to move, intentionally moving, persistently moving, choosing to create the terrain we want our lives to be.

All those moments of quiet contemplative thought from one line from a song.

Thanks!!!
