Thankful for Stillness through My Workshop, Dominic’s Next Adventure, & the Scent of Oak

Day 2,841

Growth:

Stillness doesn’t always mean sitting around. Working in my shop on the project of my choice with no timeline and no agenda fosters an incredible sense of stillness. My mind calms, I focus on the task at hand and I am totally present on my project. This is especially true when I’m trying something new and it requires the full attention of my mind. Sometimes I feel like I need to be working on something important or towards a goal, but I must remember that sometimes I need to just be still and do something purely for the fun and challenge of it with no goal, score, or deadline.

Today was full of stillness and I am in a deep state of serenity as a result.

Appreciation:

Throughout the day I’ve been checking my phone to watch the progress of Dominic and a handful of his high school classmates who are canoeing in the Boundary Waters for a week. He and his friends decided they wanted a wilderness adventure before heading off to college. I am sooooo jealous in a very positive way! So happy he’s created an opportunity to get out and live the canoeing/backpacking life with his buddies. Knowing he has friends who are interested in outdoor adventures like this is nothing short of awesome! Can’t wait until Thursday night to hear all about how his experience, and so appreciative of his passion for the outdoors.

Presence:

Savoring the smell of fresh cut oak in my workshop was amazing!!! Smells like a combination of childhood, Dad, time with my boys, and joyful work. Something about the scent of oak in a table saw always gets me.

Thanks!!!
